Bridal Boutique Product Photography:

Photographing New Wedding Dress Collections

When a bridal boutique receives a new collection of wedding dresses, having beautiful, professional photographs of those gowns is one of the most important parts of getting them in front of potential brides.

For this branding and commercial photography session with Blush Bridal, the focus was simple: photograph eight new wedding dresses that the boutique wanted to showcase and sell on its website.

Rather than creating traditional product photos on a plain background, we created a collection of polished, editorial-style images that allowed each gown to be the focus while still giving the boutique a cohesive set of photographs for its website and marketing.

Why Professional Photography Matters When Selling Wedding Dresses Online

Wedding dresses are highly visual products.

When a bride is browsing a bridal boutique's website, she needs to be able to see the details of the gown—the silhouette, fabric, neckline, train, embellishments, and overall design.

Professional photography can help those details come through clearly while also presenting the gown in a way that feels aspirational and true to the boutique's brand.

For a bridal shop, these photographs can become some of the most valuable marketing assets for new inventory.

They can be used on:

  • Wedding dress product pages
  • New arrival announcements
  • Social media
  • Instagram and Facebook
  • Pinterest
  • Bridal blog posts
  • Email marketing
  • Online advertising
  • Look books and promotional materials

Instead of simply documenting a dress, the goal is to create photographs that make a bride want to learn more about it.

Photographing New Wedding Dresses

For this session, Blush Bridal selected eight new gowns they wanted to introduce on their website.

Each dress needed photographs that showed off its individual characteristics while still feeling cohesive with the rest of the collection.

That meant paying attention to the details that make each gown different—from the shape and movement of the dress to the fabric, neckline, sleeves, train, and other design elements.

Having multiple photographs of each gown also gives a bridal boutique more flexibility when adding the dresses to its website and creating future marketing content.

One image may work beautifully as the primary website photograph, while another may be better suited for social media or a closer look at a particular detail.

Editorial Product Photography for Bridal Boutiques

Product photography doesn't have to feel boring.

For fashion-based businesses, especially bridal boutiques, editorial-style photography can allow the product to be presented in a way that feels elevated and aspirational while still providing the information a potential customer needs.

Wedding dresses are a perfect example.

A bride isn't purchasing a dress simply because she can identify its color and silhouette. She's imagining herself wearing it.

The photography should help her envision that.

That is where combining commercial product photography with an editorial approach can be especially effective for bridal businesses.

Creating Images That Work Beyond the Website

Although the primary purpose of this session was to photograph new gowns for the boutique's website, the resulting images can be used throughout the brand's marketing.

A bridal boutique can take one professional photography session and continue using those images for months.

New dress arrivals can become social media content. Individual gowns can be featured in blog posts. Details can be used in Instagram Stories or Pinterest graphics. Images can be incorporated into advertising campaigns or email newsletters.

That makes professional product photography much more than simply filling the image slots on a website.

It creates a library of marketing content for the business.
